Our institute's research palette is very colourful, as is our animal husbandry. In addition to all this, our domestic animal husbandry, which has serious traditions, has been facing significant challenges in recent years and presents our colleagues with new and new tasks. We work with the living being itself, and within it we deal with the changes in its organism, as well as with the farm animal's environment and the various effects on it. Our basic activity is the classic breeding of farm animals, from which the various related researches branch out. These are the organization of breeding, the development of breeding value estimation procedures, the development of pedigrees and appearance evaluation, population genetic studies, inbreeding and inbreeding deterioration studies, marker studies, population genetic studies, applied cell analytical work, complex andrological studies, gene preservation work, in vitro and in vivo embryo work, spermatological work, research related to grassland-based animal husbandry, technological developments, animal welfare and animal welfare testing, production of healthy food ingredients, stem cells and animal products. Our employees also carry out simulation modelling and modelling of process-type systems, as well as work on the application of precision animal breeding technologies.

The Kaposvari Campus is home to three state-recognized rabbit breeds (Pannon white, Pannon Ka and Pannon large) bred and maintained locally, while the founding stock breeding of the Keszthely Hungarian large white pig breed is located on the Georgikon Campus in Keszthely.
